Max Steiner is a man of contradictions. On the one hand, he is a formidable soldier with countless battle honours to his name and who is much beloved by those who serve under his command. On the other hand, Steiner is regarded by many of his superiors, as well as large sections of the Bauhaus Corporation’s noble classes, as an arrogant, swaggering, vain and egocentric bon vivant. In truth, both are true.
